Intern
Kendall Bertsch, MSW
Kendall Bertsch is a Master of Social Work (MSW) intern at Loyola University Chicago with a
passion for supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of children, adolescents, and
families. Her work is grounded in a strengths-based and person-centered approach, drawing on
social-emotional learning models to help individuals build resilience, self-awareness, and
healthy coping strategies.
Kendall has experience volunteering with the Aldrich Project, where she taught
social-emotional learning strategies to 5th-grade students using the evidence-based Second
Step model. In this role, Kendall helped children develop foundational skills in emotional
regulation, empathy, and problem-solving through weekly lessons designed to foster a
supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
She also interned with a restorative justice program serving refugee youth, where she worked
with children and adolescents adjusting to life in the United States after experiencing
displacement and trauma. Kendall led group activities focused on emotional expression,
trust-building, and conflict resolution, while also offering academic support in English and
math. This experience strengthened her commitment to culturally responsive care and
reinforced her belief in the healing power of community-based interventions.
Kendall is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment where clients feel
empowered to express themselves and navigate life’s challenges. She is especially interested in
early intervention, emotional development, and helping young people build strong foundations
for lifelong mental wellness.
